History of CCRW
In the fall of 1999, Cynthia Tauss, Linda Mahanay, Bonnie Norman and Kathie Nenninger discussed the need for a Republican Women’s club in the north part Galveston County. In January 2000, after getting the needed 10 members, we were chartered by TFRW as North Galveston County Republican Woman. We had our first meeting in the home of Bonnie Norman who became our President. At that meeting, we elected Kathie Nenninger VP Membership, Claire Worthington VP Programs, Susan Dill Secretary and Sheryl Stevens, Treasurer. At our second meeting, we voted to change our name to Clear Creek Republican Women to reflect the flow of the creek that traveled from Friendswood through League City towards Dickinson. We began meeting at a little tearoom on the west side of HWY 45 on FM 518. After a few months, the tearoom went out of business and was torn down. We then looked for a new location to hold our meetings. We met at South Shore Harbour County Club with an occasional meeting at Leslie’s (which is now Sundance II at Waterford Harbor.) A few months later we settled in at Petronella’s restaurant on Marina Bay Drive (now South Shore Grill). We struggled with a location and began meeting at the Galveston County Courthouse Annex. Bonnie and Kathie approached Steve Pratt of Esteban’s and he offered to let us use the Fiesta Shack. We were delighted that we had finally found a home. We have spent the past nine years building our membership at CCRW and working to change the political face of Galveston County.
